Involving the Council

The successes that have been enjoyed by the now-established Friends groups have led to more communities wanting to improve their own local park. The Parks service has listened to the requests that have been made for more information, help and support, and has developed a response to this, including:

  • Producing this guidance
  • Allocating Groundwork South’s Green Space Project Manager as a direct point of contact for communities
  • Giving on-going information and support
  • Fundraising, financial and practical support

Councils welcome the opportunity to work with communities as they are able to voice the issues faced in the area. Local councils are keen to work with these communities to make real, sustainable change in parks and green spaces which enables wider engagement with the natural environment. Your Programme Co-ordinator for Communities is your first port of call for finding the relevant contact within your local Council.
